Special investigation agencies like CBI & ED are entrusted with the task of investigating specilaised category of cases. Where  CBI is entrused to investigate all type of cases, ED is empowered to investigate the Economic offences relating to offence of money relating to offence of money laundering and other allied offences.  Though the investigation done by these two agencies are under different enactments, but the line of investigation will be common of the case pertains to economic offence. In almost all cases there will be a joint trial of cases launched by CBI & ED.

In the recent past, the prosecutions launched by CBI & ED are increasing at an alarming rate. But some new issues are cropping up and ulmiately Constitutional Courts are solving the issues.

The question of entrustment of the cases to CBI for specililized investigation is recurring one. Apart from granting general consent and entrustment of the matter to CBI by the concerned State Government, the Constitutional Courts are also empowered to entrust the investigation. Hence the victim or the family of victim can approach the Constitutional Courts and can seek for entrustment of case to CBI.

The deparment of CBI & ED are launchubg prosecutions and prosecuting the offenders under the respective enactments.
